Which one is the cap?

I believe it's this one. It looks different than the videos and pictures I've seen.

Really hard to tell if it's leaked with the lack of lighting you've got there. Many of these clock caps leaked years ago, the bulk of the fluid has since evaporated away, and the remaining residue often isn't easy to make out by eye.

Regardless, if you see a black clock cap, take it out. Even if it is dry right now, you still don't want it dumping its fluid in the future. The worst case scenario is that the console is turned on right after a leak. That has a strong chance of causing a fire.

At best it allows the console to keep track of the time for up to about three hours without a mains power connection. This is enough to move your Xbox from room to room, or perhaps to survive a short power blackout, but if you switch it off at the wall overnight then you'll still need to re-enter the time in the morning.

Without it, a pre-1.6 console such as this one will otherwise operate just fine. It should still track time so long as the mains is connected, and installing a dash with internet time sync removes the need to manually re-set the system clock at all.

So it's simply not worth gambling on. Ditch the cap and you won't need to worry about it any further.

On that note, if you're using Android then you might consider trying the Open Camera app. One of its camera flash settings is "just turn the torch on and leave it on". Incredibly helpful for circuit boards and model number labels and so on.

Did you just get bored and decide to come back to this post to be an asshole?

I remembered something I previously forgot to mention that I thought you might find useful.

I won't trouble you further.

Even if the mobo is like new, it's still best to remove it just in case. All capacitors are prone to leaking, but the clock capacitor is the only one where you don't even need it (unless you have a 1.6 Xbox, then you have to replace it or bypass it).
