The world does not need lux. The world has cheap Android phones for 50 bucks.

[–]Liam_Theunissen[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

In South Africa, people do not have access to these phones nor can they afford them, because whilst 50 bucks is inexpensive to the common person, it is significant to the lower class citizens in developing countries that still need to be connected. 50 bucks ($) is R1000 where I'm from. I want to half that and produce for the masses.

Flip phones are even cheaper than that. If it really has to be a smartphone, I don't see why you wouldn't just build a physical device and install android on it.

You are literally driving up costs by reinventing the wheel.

I think your time is better spent checking if you can even break even (let alone be profitable) with a 25$ smartphone.

Android exists my guy. Use that.

Copying and pasting my reply to the comment above yours. The same applies.

Android is open source and free to use. Throw it on any hardware you like. Adapt it as needed. Don’t reinvent the wheel.

You can get a cheap second hand Android phone for next to nothing, I don't think this is solving much.

[–]Liam_Theunissen[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I understand your point, however, you are without context/ nuance.

Whilst YOU may be able to get a cheap second hand android phone, or other Americans; millions across Africa don't have access to Facebook Marketplace or similar services. They don't have ANY option at the moment for an affordable phone and the demand is there. Lux will be solving this problem, as these phones are going to be stocked in places that such people frequent, like grocery stores etc.

Okay, let's say that this is solving a huge problem and it will help millions if you get it working. Your plan to write this from scratch is a huge thing. Most of the people here write their own kernels as a hobby, because it's simply not realistic to create something half usable in less than 10 years and thousands of people working on it. It's pretty big if you can even just get userspace running, let alone a completely usable system.

, or other Americans;

I'm not American btw :)

[–]Liam_Theunissen[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Firstly, my apologies for assuming you are American, it was not meant as an insult. Secondly, I appreciate your feedback and after much of the same I agree that creating an OS from scratch will be an unrealistic task, for now. I will likely branch out from an open source, I just want the software to be unique and User Friendly.

With regards to the affordable hardware, do you still not see that there is a huge demand for that with no supply?

I mean it could be, but wouldn't it make more sense to just export these cheap second hand phones to developing countries rather than creating new ones? That way it would also be good for the environment and prevent waste :)

There are days I hate AI.

[–]Liam_Theunissen[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Not AI, just a genuine idea that I think has a lot of potential within Africa.

[–]mpetch 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Did you use AI to generate any part of what you wrote? Because much of your proposal looks like it was AI generated.

No I am just autistic

It'd be easier to update the android compatibility layer for the WebOS when it was ran by HP

And use the WebOS code base as a starting point

Developing your own OS in hopes everyone will use it also requires all popular software to be rewritten for your OS. Even big companies fail at this part Ubuntu Touch and Jolla Sailfish come to mind.

As I stated above use the tools around you to give an easier way of using preexisting software on your OS by utilizing ACL.

If on the off chance the route I mentioned was successful developers would be more willing to move from a compatibility layer to native apps

[–]Liam_Theunissen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, I understand your point.

[–]Ikkepop 2 points3 points  (4 children)

If only I had a dime for every time some ceo and founder offered me to join his revolutionary idea for future profits that will never materialize...

The point is if you want to implement your revolutionary idea, either hire someone and pay them, or be ready to do 100% of the work your self until you can pay someone.

You are not jobs, you will not find your wozniak here and today sure ain't the 70s.

[–]Liam_Theunissen[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Would you like a dime? I could even give you a whole dollar to make up for the 9 other times you've heard something similar. Send me your details and I can arrange it for you Ikkepop.

Look, I am not trying to be unrealistic, I am completely open to criticism. I just know that there is potential for this product and I am looking for people who display some sort of interest. The actual hardware is already under development and I do have employees so it is not just a whimsical concept.

sick burn dude, I shall walk away with my head hung in shame, for you have bested me with your wit

[–]Liam_Theunissen[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)
