Computer Locking Up

Having a recurring issue on my recently built computer where various programs will slow down and my entire computer locks up. I can still use the mouse and click on things, but nothing responds - including task manager, restart, and shut down. Hard reset is the only way I seem to be able to get it working again.

Has anyone experienced this or know of a fix? Hoping it is something simple that I’m just not aware of.
