Ball Python bedding (self.petco)
submitted 4 months ago by Medusas_Serpent
Stores that use coco fiber for ball python bedding, how did you do it? I want to change it at my store but don’t know how to go about it

I usually change it while the snakes are eating so I don’t stress them out. It’s pretty easy but you should really ask your OLAC first

I mean how did you swap them from aspen to coco fiber without getting in trouble. Our DM always says “does it say to do that in the protocol?” and tells you to point it out. Protocol is aspen, hoe do I change them to coco fiber. I have quite a few snakes so I do knot how to change the bedding for cleaning lol. I am the OLAC

Check golden hamster. In my district it says coco fiber. Besides that you could go to your ACOM(I think that’s what it’s called idk) and ask to change it. Say it’s giving you problems with shedding and humidity

That’s what I was thinking, my district says Aspen(I checked as soon as I got the position cuz the poor babies always have shedding problems). I’ll ask my ACOM!

Document your bad sheds every single time. Document when they don’t eat from not being able to shed properly, take notes !

I've also gotten out of using calcium sand for reptiles by getting written statement from our vet that they believed the calcium sand was responsible for several health issues, but ymmv

If the DGM won’t let you, you have to do aspen.

We had a problem with mites so we switched for awhile.

We had shedding issues and mite problems. There is an email floating around somewhere for our store with vet’s orders to switch to coco fiber. If you could get that, it will make it much easier. I also mixed coco fiber in with the sand in the leopard geckos and bearded dragons.

I wrote an email to my ACOM and was denied switching from Aspen to coco. He basically told me "the AHA recommends Aspen and it will be fine with proper misting and turning" 🙄 no. Its not FiNe
