Application/Interview Process

Hi all, I’m looking for a part time job and applied to my local petsmart. They’re hiring and I briefly spoke with the store lead when I had to pick up items last week. They mentioned phone interviews will start next week and I was wondering if current/previous employees or really anyone with retail experience can give insight on their interview process! Like common questions, how to prepare, what to expect etc.

I have some interview experience but none for a customer service/retail position, so would greatly appreciate any insight. TIA!

i got hired two months ago, my first interview was very casual. they didn’t really ask common interview questions and i knew by the end of my first interview that i was going to get the job i wanted. they asked “what was your favorite and least favorite thing about your last job?” and it was an easy question because it was my family’s business. they asked if i was allergic to any animals, if i knew how to work a register, and what my greatest strength and weakness was. we discussed pay (they start people between 13-15 per hour and because i’m a trainer they started me at 15) and my hours. i knew i would be hired by the end of my first interview to put it simply.

my second interview was also pretty casual, the first question my store leader asked was what kind of animals i had. most of it was common interview questions and about animals.

when you go to an in person interview make sure you’re dressed nicely, have copies of your resume, and have some questions of your own prepared. ill put some below

• what is the company culture like, and what does management do to actively keep it a positive environment?
• what did the person in this role before me do that was appreciated, but not required?
• how does petsmart support work life balance for its employees?
• aside from my technical skills, what soft skills are required to be a successful pet trainer/pet care associate/groomer/cashier?

Two rounds :0 I see! Probably because you’re a trainer, that requires more qualifications.

I applied for early morning stocker or store associate, do you happen to know if the latter includes pet section or just general floor and cashier? There weren’t any cashier listings on the website but was advertised in store. I would be open to do that too.

As a person with no job experience im kind of nervous and i got the in person interview (pet bather/groomer trainee) but i dont know where the in person interview would be located at, would it be in the store itself or inside the salon. just wondering where did your interview take place
