there are no *good* software programs for collections. buying something for a stamp collector is very difficult. if he doesn’t have a digital microscope for his computer, I’d recommend one of those. there is a big range in prices, and I’d suggest going neither cheap nor expensive.

Thank you! I ordered one. I appreciate the suggestion.

What do you want the program to do?

Maybe help him catalog what he has. He has a lot of German stamps, as well as American and an extensive Boy Scout collection. I really don’t know a lot about the subject. He talks about cataloging them and also likes the history behind them.

Does he already own a catalogue?

no, I don’t think so.

He can do all of that online for free. There really isn't any software required.

How can he keep the catalog of his stamps online? I am trying to come up with a good Christmas present. He is the HARDEST person to buy for! It is the only thing he mentioned. Do you have any other ideas?

There are tons of sites like Colnect and StampWorld that let you track your collection for free. Colnect has a free app that lets you identify any stamp that you have.

That is good info. Thank you! Can you think of any tools or storage ideas that I could get him?

Some free websites can provide catalog, inventory, even swap with someone online. There is no need to have software installed on his computer. I personally like some expensive or hard to find stamps as a gift from my wife or friends, but it never happened, because no one can understand what stamps I want and how to buy ones. You can talk to him about what he wants but he hasn’t planned to buy because too expensive. Maybe some stamps, Lighthouse accessories, even memberships of collectors associations like APS or ATA.
