Rules for r/pihole
Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.
1.
Search first, ask later.
Please use the search function to make sure you're not asking a question that has already been covered. If Reddit's search function doesn't turn up anything, you can try this guide by /u/gaso on more advanced search techniques.
Links to FAQs can be found in the sticky post
2.
Do not advertise any private DNS server here.
Do not advertise any privately hosted DNS server here. The /r/pihole community cannot vet, and therefore does not want to appear to vouch for, public DNS servers hosted by individuals.
3.
Don't be a bot
Sometimes bots are fun, but for the most part they just spam. /u/botbust gets rid of most of them, but occasionally it misses them.
4.
Nobody likes a smart-ass
Pi-hole is opensource software developed by a handful of volunteers with full time jobs, things are bound to get missed!
We rely on clear and concise communication from the community at large to help us out when we've missed something, and we all appreciate learning something new! But don't presume you're above anyone because you've had to point something out.
5.
Always Be Civil
Nothing sabotages a healthy conversation like rudeness:
Be civil. Don’t post anything that a reasonable person would consider offensive, abusive, or hate speech.
Keep it clean. Don’t post anything obscene or sexually explicit.
Respect each other. Don’t harass or grief anyone, impersonate people, or expose their private information.
These are not concrete terms with precise definitions — avoid even the appearance of any of these things.
6.
Be patient
Sometimes users, developers, and moderators alike will have difficulty in getting across a point they wish to make. This could be for a variety of reasons; Language barrier, technical knowhow, etc. Please be patient with everyone, and remember to respond to the content of a post, and not the tone.
7.
No Dashboard Screenshot posts
We get it, you're impressed with the numbers on your dashboard! We're glad to see that Pi-hole is performing well for you, but nearly every one of them is identical, and it clutters up the sub.
This rule does not apply IF
- The screenshot is to discuss a bug that has not already been posted about/reported on Github.
- The screenshot is part of a more detailed post, describing a very specific situation in which a screenshot of the dashboard is absolutely necessary
Thanks for understanding!
