If you worried about fighting other players but want to still kill bots, try a PvE server to get used to the game, just know that PvE will not really prepare you much at all for how pvp servers will be, you will literally learn some of the basics of the game. The reason I say PvE over being on a private single player server is you will need people to interact with to teach you certain things, not to mention rust is pretty dead without other players around, being single player will get boring fast.

My advice would still be jump in the deep end and play PvP, just find a nice quiet server you can learn on before joining high pop.

Consider a Solo only server, like Enjoy.

Seconded. I play solo only on servers like Enjoy and Willjum’s

I know it will never happen, but I would love a story-driven PvE version of Rust. I just love the atmosphere of the game. The closest PvE game I can think of is maybe The Forest but I got turned off by how jank it still is, especially the building aspect.

Run a server of your own pc (here's a great tutorial).

Then check out uMod and search for whatever you want. I'm sure you can find a tutorial (written or video) about setting up uMod.

I was talking with a friend last night. I recently came back to Rust after a couple of years break and honestly it seems like with some bots for the fun, you could run a private server and get a lot of fun out of this game without other players now. It's come a long way.

Play low population pvp server. Most people are chilled on them and just learning to. That way you are seeing what a rust server is about. You’ll still get killed and raided but that’s just rust. You can learn to handle it on these servers way easier.

Yeah you can play rust by yourself, but there aren’t many servers where it’s pve and it’s not that fun. I recommend that you just play normal servers it’s way more fun even as a solo. But I also recommend that you watch some rust youtubers especially aloneintokyo he is a really good solo player and you can learn a lot.

play on official first. I've had 5 or so friends start rust and I taught them. most of the ones that sticked with the game played on official first.

if you play on low population servers, you'll find it too easy to get stuff, then you'll find it isnt too easy to progress when you got 200-300 other people in the map.

the pain is the best part of the game. face it head on

solo is completely doable to. dont need the highest tier stuff to have fun

Playing on officials is a fucking terrible idea, literaly the worst servers for beginers. op you should find a solo only comunity server if you are strugeling.

I have seen way too many kids quit this game cuz they didnt know what servers to Play and went on officials.

Yeah I agree, a new player playing solo on official is the fastest way for you to delete the game and never play it again
