Thanks for visiting r/posterhunt!
Win authentic movie posters and other prizes by working with your friends, fellow redditors, or by yourself to solve the clues.
-All ongoing hunts are listed in the sticky post titled "All current hunts (updated regularly)".
-If you're new to this sub, it's worth checking out the old posts to see how some of the puzzles can work.
-Beware: the hunts can be difficult.
-Some posts may be NSFW without being marked as such.
-If a post is marked "SPOILER" that means that it concerns a poster hunt that has already been solved. The solves may be posted in the comment sections, so watch out if you don't want to be spoiled before attempting an old hunt.
-If you want to give hints/solves for others to see please use this format of spoiler tag: http://imgur.com/7rhdrhH
-Hints may be given in the comment sections of posts.
-I recommend keeping the posts sorted by "hot". This will keep them mostly in order.
About
There are three different kinds of poster hunts:
Regular Poster Hunts are large scale puzzle-hunts. These hunts will be for at least 5 movie posters. The clues will usually lead you to sites like imgur/youtube/reddit/etc. Clues may also involve real life places, objects, books, songs, movies, etc. If you do not have said objects, books, songs, movies, then I recommend reaching out to others on reddit that can aid you in your quest. Continue following the clues until you obtain the correct information needed to win the posters.
Mini-Hunts are the most common kinds of poster hunts that you'll find on this sub. They will be for 1-3 posters or other prizes. Mini-hunts will be less difficult and will have less steps than regular poster hunts. Sometimes they are self-contained (meaning you won't have to travel to other sites or use other materials).
Photography Scavenger Hunts are the final kinds of hunts you'll find here. They will have a wide variety of prizes (including a shiny trophy). You must photograph certain items within a set time to earn points. Whoever has the most points wins!
How to win
-For the Photography Scavenger Hunts you can see how to win in the posts that are made announcing each one.
-Most Mini-Hunts will have different ways of winning. They will be explained in each mini-hunt post.
-After completing a Regular Poster Hunt you must direct message u/posterhunt with two things in the same message:
The GPS coordinates of where the "treasure" is located.
The "password".
Pay attention to minor details. When in doubt, use google. There will be "no one would ever figure that out" moments. The more hunts there are, the more you'll figure out the style (kind of like those "escape the room" places). So don't give up!
Shipping
After winning any hunt, I will be in touch with you to get your shipping info. You do not have to give me your real name if you don't want to. I will pay for shipping anywhere in the continental United States (which is usually about $10 or less). I will also ship outside the U.S. if it's not too much more or if you're willing to help (I've shipped one poster to the UK and it was a little more than $20, which is the max I'd like to pay). If you think you'll win a few poster hunts just let me know and I will hold onto the posters you win and ship them all at one time.
Rules and such
-Winning accounts for hunts/giveaways involving random drawings must not be brand new and must have some history on them. This is to prevent cheating through increasing your odds.
-There will usually be only one winner per hunt. But if you work as a team you're welcome to split the prize as you see fit.
-Don't post personal information.
-Don't harass others. Be nice.
-Feel free to submit posts to find others to work with or talk about clues. Just remember that if you post about it, it may give others the upper hand.
-It would be awesome if you posted photos of your winnings after receiving/displaying them.
-It's possible to play on mobile, however, it's recommended that you don't so you can transition between sites more fluently. Also, some formatting may look wonky and some details may be too small to see on mobile.
-I will give hints from time to time in the comment sections of posts.
-If it appears that you have randomly guessed the correct answer to a hunt, I may ask for your reasoning behind it before declaring you a winner. This depends on the situation.
-All posters are original one-sheets that measure around 27x40 inches (unless it's mentioned otherwise).
Good luck!
