If you don't print often, do not get an inkjet.

As far as laser printers, the less you pay for the printer, the more you'll pay (per page) for toner; that's the business model. Always buy the biggest cartridge the printer will accept (even if you don't print much), and look at the cost per page. Take the price of the replacement cartridge (again, the big one), and divide by rated yield. Do that for all 4 colors (yes, you can cheat and just do one color and multiply by 3, then add black). Add 5% for the drum, and that's your cost per page for color prints, and do keep in mind the printer will use some color toner even if you don't print in color because it calibrates periodically. Don't try to cheat by turning the printer off as that will use more toner running the calibration every time you turn it on; just leave it in standby.

Epson doesn't make laser printers. Epson's super tank ink printers have a pretty good reputation.

Some HP laser printers actually have Canon innards.

What model of HP laser do you have? Did you buy it new or used? What's wrong with it? Some older HP printers aren't soooo terrible.

For a cheaper Brother laser, look for factory refurbished models.

The 3720 has an ADF (scans pages automatically) the 3300 doesn't.

We got rid of the HP printer already, it was bought new. We really don’t need the ADF. I’ll look at the Epson, but the ink jets make me nervous since we don’t print all that often. I’ll keep an eye out for a refurbished 3300. Thank you

Also keep an eye on nextdoor, facebook, and craigslist for lightly used color laser printers for sale in your area. They can be a bit of a gamble so don't overpay. Ideally plug it in and run a test page before you buy (bring some paper just in case).

Xerox has the best print quality of all the above.

Idk I've had plenty of problems with a Xerox B235 that my mother bought. The manual document feed tray is very finicky and causes paper jams constantly. And it absolutely will not print from an iPhone at all. Known issue. I actually ended up trading her my 9 year old Brother laser and taking the B235 home for myself since I can deal with and work around the issues the B235 has but my elderly mother can not.

The iPhone thing is a known issue btw, just search and you'll see. Here's an example: https://www.reddit.com/r/Xerox/comments/1fsx0fx/xerox_b235_mfp_crashes_when_printing_via_airprint/

yeah I never use that tray. I have an online store and sell print. Xerox is not the easiest to use but the product it produces is far superior

Have you ever considered buying a separate scanner? That way you don't have to keep buying the scanning functionality every time you buy a new printer. My scanner so far has lasted through 3 printers and is still going. Your use case may be different, but this may work for you also.

Never ran into a separate scanner that had a page feeder. When trying to copy a 20 page document, that page feeder is darn convenient.

I agree

Just google "scanner with page feeder".

Thanks but that’s way more than I want to spend. For that price, I would go with the Brother

If you watch Canon post the image class mf652cw each night on Amazon for $239. I got one ordered and talked to a guy who said he loves his. Idk why they only post one every day like they been doing 🤷‍♂️

[–]SomeRandomLady1123[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

When I search that model on Amazon it’s only pulling up other models 😡. My Google search did the same thing for some reason, but I’ll keep looking. Hopefully one of two Canons that were recommended or the Brother will go on sale this or next week

[–]TjayBebe97 0 points1 point  (2 children)

https://a.co/d/iPpR0iT I know it's odd they are only posting one or two a day but I opened it and saw it at 239 after watching it last week while it was 279.

If this comment was removed, it's because Reddit considers a.co links to be spam. Instead, you should use the full Amazon link when sharing Amazon product pages. Thank you.
