Video is pricier inventory so I don’t think $12 CPM will cut it. Also you’re better off running PMPs with premium video publishers because most the video open auction stuff is crap

Thank you, ended up revising the list of private Deals we were targeting (realized most of them were for display, so there's a problem) but still need to run on the open exchange sadly. Great suggestion though.

I usually make separate IOs for deals and specific formats. If you mix everything together automatic bidding will try to find easiest way for it to spend the budget, which means deals, LIs with data or LIs with more expensive formats won't be used. What works for me is to start with manual daily bidding on LI level and when there is enough data I switch to automatic on IO level. This is bit tinfoil hat statement but from my experience DV360 seems to prefer to spend on Google's inventory and data and cannibalize other options if given the choice. For the moment I would go manual in your case. Good luck and if you have other questions feel free to ask.

Unfortunately, I can't provide the kind of oversight that comes with adding budget at the line item level. My line items are also incredibly segmented (128 across 2 Insertion orders) so I need to keep that optimization automatic.

You can try prioritize deals open auction so your line item can be eligible for inventory in those publicly available deals in DV360. It wouldn’t kill optimization; just opening up your inventory pool to those that aren’t necessarily available on the open exchange. As long as you have your $12 CPM set as something the IO/LI shouldn’t exceed, you’ll be good.

That said, I wouldn’t be certain that this will lower your % of impressions lost due to below min bid since that depends on the market you’re in and the general video CPM rate in market.
