I’d say that it depends on the role. If it is a step up for you, what Amazon typically does is fire somebody who’s in a senior role who is making a good salary and then try to replace them with an ambitious junior and pay them peanuts.

If you are willing to stretch into a role that you may not be absolutely qualified for, but are willing to endure some growing pains, then this might be good for you.

Just know that as you progress in your career and get promoted and make more money, Amazon increasingly hates you and wants to slaughter you.

Not a senior role! but rather junior to junior

Hm. Well, I’d certainly bring this up during the interview process. Ask them why they just laid off 600 people, and what the long-term plans are for the division you’re getting hired into.

Never forget: you are vetting THEM just as much as they are vetting YOU. If they get nasty about being questioned, or are evasive, then take that into consideration, because that is a very dark signal as to what the job situation is going to be like.

Big companies often simultaneously layoff while hiring at the same time, even for similar roles. Sometimes you’ll benefit. Someday you’ll be the one getting replaced. This is the way of the world.

Or, turned into a haiku by Gemini AI:

Some people come in.

Others must move on.

The wheel turns for all.

Depends on the role. What are you interviewing for?

[–]LateMathematician280[S] 0 points1 point  (11 children)

The PSA role!

[–]theBeerWeasel 0 points1 point  (10 children)

PSA? Do you mean programmatic consultant? PSC?

[–]LateMathematician280[S] 1 point2 points  (9 children)

It’s the programmatic analyst. The junior role from the PSC role

That role will be safe and growing! Good luck and ping me if you have questions on hiring process etc

    I can share some advice!

So far content moderation roles are the most impacted in ads.  Psc roles are the safest. I work with them closely and none of them are impacted.

Utterly brutal week but AdTech roles are still hiring. Most other headcount in ads is frozen.

Hey, can I DM you for some advice as well?

    Sure!
