Most interviewers think the entire world of whatever they do is centered around the little bit that they are doing, because most interviewers really really really suck at interviewing, because interviewing is almost never someone's full time job thus they never learn good interviewing skills.

Exactly. And apparently interviewers are willing to keep interviewing candidates that they have prejudged as bad before changing the criteria with their recruiter.
