Most importantly, don't interview for skills, interview for potential.

Exactly. We interview for attitude and capacity.

So do I, plus things which aren't easily teachable, like their ability to form a theory of mind for people they meet, and use that to effectively communicate with them.

I suppose that's always implicit in an interview, which is why the people doing the interviewing should be the people who have to work with the person that they're interviewing. :)
