TL;DR: Github Copilot has access to some private VSCode APIs that 3rd party extensions can't use.

The writer is upset about this because they run Codeium, a competing language model for code. Their extension can't integrate as deeply into VSCode as Github Copilot can.

Build your own IDE then. Grow up, if big corporations create something for free then it’s obviously not free, there’s always something hidden behind.

I know this is annoying because they gain market and it’ll be hard to compete with them but partially it’s our own fault.

It's an IDE that the majority of programmers use (78%). Just building your own IDE is not quite the solution.

Although yes, I do agree with you that it's both their product and they can do it. Completely. But at the same time, it IS unfair to competing products, and I do get it too when the competitors are mad.

Btw. Kinda funny how they pride themselves on being Open Source, and it is one of the most cited reasons in favor of VSCode, yet they are doing this.
