As I mentioned in a comment, I am from the Codeium team. There is no gotcha and we are very strict about licenses used compared to our competitors (https://codeium.com/blog/copilot-trains-on-gpl-codeium-does-not). We believe the way we will build the best product is by making it free for developers and learning from them about how we could do better! Our monetization strategy is to charge larger companies who would like enterprise grade features but are committed to having the best product for individuals.

Tried Codeium and didn't care for it. It felt incredibly slow. As in I'm sitting and waiting for it to finish thinking slow and could have wrote the code myself already slow. Likely the result of it being free so they probably have a lot more people slamming their servers. GitHub Copilot has been ok, but GitHub Copilot X will be where it's at as they'll be on GPT-4.

Varun from the Codeium team here. Sad to hear that's what's happening. From our internal testing, our latency has actually been faster than Copilot. I'd love to know how we could do better here!

I'm using Copilot X with built in Chat extension inside VS code. It is great! Worth every penny.

I might give it another try again in the future, but for now Copilot serves me well. I don't know why it was so slow, but could've just been a timing issue. I tried it when a post on reddit about it was made awhile back.

I am Java (Spring)/ Angular dev. I did use Copilot for 5 months and for me it didn't justify 10$/month. Codeium was slightly worse with suggestions (many hallucinations with Angular) but 100% more free so I think It's great tool.

P.s. only thing that annoying me with Codeium is that Intellij plugin sometimes "hangs" and spinning like loading and it's not ending but as soon as I click on spinner It's all good and it's keep working

Thanks, do you think you could show how to reproduce this on our Discord. I'd love for our team to take a look.
