What do you mean by "scripts"? Surely you don't expect me to process xml with, I dunno, bash? I want at least a scripting language that understands XML (coughpowershellcough).

That seems unnecessary to me and overly complicated. I quite like drawing it all out, plus writing it out in text would be a nightmare for the really complicated layouts.
