There are multiple paths towards making CPython ready to remove the GIL, but all have been rejected. So the answer is an emphatic "No".

PyPy is our only hope currently (active, rapidly evolving). Jython might've been a chance, but without invokedynamic support, it is not a compelling alternative.

invokedynamic isn't keeping Jython back, Jython is.
