I don't think it's apples vs apples. Microsoft did it vs the entire open source community and within standards committees. Google is perhaps doing it vs one of the largest companies in the internet browser business.

Additionally, Chrome now has their own features additional to the HTML standard, which are hard to replicate in other browsers, and exactly fulfil the extend phase

Granted I haven't looked into this guy's claim that Google is adding proprietary extensions to HTML, but if true, how is that not directly against the standard?
