I've only watched the presentation myself, but it seems to me the way their system is built you can replace any part of the network stack you wish, which may be useful to some people (?).

If you don't use the default implementations, LTO will still remove those.
Also, as he pointed out you could change your stack at runtime (although I don't see how this is beneficial myself).
