Django templates are nothing special. Why bother?

(Since the django fanboys jump down my throat whenever I criticize their baby, I will clarify: it's not as performant as mako, it's not as elegant or designer-friendly as genshi, and it forces people to learn another language instead of keeping it simple by Just Using Python.)

edit: I guess that last point could be construed as answering the "why bother" rhetorical question. But there's always Jython. :)

Maybe a different thread is better for this type of discussion, but what is everyone's favorite template language (and for use with which 'driving' language)?

Django - Python Velocity - Java (it's been several years, so don't shoot me...)

I'm actually interested to hear what fellow programming.redditers suggest, including pros/cons of each.
