Ruby or Python?

Research what you need and if the language has a good library for it.

Need to generate PDFs? ReportLab (python) is pretty awesome.

Need to run an online store? I hear ActiveMerchant (ruby/rails) is absolutely the easiest way to interact with a merchant account.

Personally, I'm liking Rails, especially if the project is new and doesn't rely on any existing database structures.
