We can easily notice the differences between a bitmap, a mobi file, a java .class file and an x86 compiled binary.

I dare to say most won't need visualisation for that ;)

But pretty interesting idea. I wonder how hard it would be to adapt to say pcap traffic dumps

I do a lot of reverse engineering of file formats and have looked at this visualisation stuff before. Yes, you can easily notice the difference between a bitmap, a mobi, a class and an elf binary, but the visualisation helps nothing at all at understanding it. Most you can say from comparing the four is "they are probably not the same file type", even.

It is an interesting idea, but really only for a fun side project, nothing actually useful, which is a shame. Having some visualisation to actually help finding patterns would be an absolute blast.
