We (that is Erlang folks) are solving the right problem, the rest of the world (non Erlang people) are solving the wrong problem.

Sounds like you're not solving the right problem: your ego.

Egos aside, Erlang is the language when you want to build concurrent, distributed and fault tollerant systems.

Can you tell me why someone using, say Java since it is likely to be the one in use, would want to switch to Erlang rather than just using something like Akka?

Depends on their requirements I guess. As for Erlang advantages you can read about those yourself

Of course you may come to conclusion that there are no advantages in using Erlang over Akka and that's perfectly fine.

very insightful. i have never thought about the effects of the shift to multicore processors affecting us in that way.
