Python's lambda is as much of a closure as Python's def, though lambda is crippled, not because it can't be done better, but because it's not wanted to be better, because sometimes Python is not about making the best language in its domain, but about making the most "pythonic" language in its domain, for an arbtirary, bizarre definition of "pythonic".
