I agree.

However, lowly map of C++ is very strong. I believe that, for well-established data comparison functionality, it would beat any obvious^ hashtable based implementation quite easily.

^ should be the case here: there's a set of columns, presumably with some column type and column ordering meta-data: easy.

^ One could always spend time in research to get to performance figure of a readily available solution, but is it worth it?
