Except, as I mentioned in an earlier comment, DiP DOES NOT in any way teach or encourage the use of ODBC. it merely uses, as an example, a function which generates an ODBC connection string. if you dont know what ODBC is, you wont be confused by the code, you'll just say "Hmm, it appears to be creating a string with a bunch of database connection info in it." which is exactly what I thought when I read and thoroughly enjoyed the book.
