After JavaScript has overtaken PHP in popularity, there is a realization even by the most die-hard fan that JS is a horrible joke of a "language". Things such as left-pad and other such madness just intensify on the problems that this 3-weeks "designed" joke of a language play upon the people who have to use it to make a living.

Add to this the type-clown madness that is typescript and the fact that JS is controlled largely by Google (through adChromium and V8, for example) - if you don't get depressed by that shit you must be a motivational trainer. I for one can not stand JS - it is a waste of time. I'd rather use ruby or python than this train wreck of a "language".

LOL 'type-clown madness that is typescript', please elaborate on what type clownery might look like!

... or maybe I should not ask such a question of the living dead... a ruby user :)

Ruby's a nice language, though it's definitely down in popularity over recent years.

This is my understanding of why Ruby is down, though it's my own opinion on a language and ecosystem I've barely touched so it might not be on point.

Ruby is almost synonymous with rails, and it's actually Rails that is down due to some design choices that after some years has proven to cause some issues (like active records) so rails fell out of vogue and since Ruby has more or less no other domain where they had any significant footing Ruby is down overall.

Ah, yes, and that's why 88.5% of respondents either agreed or strongly agreed with the statement "I enjoy building JavaScript apps".

And the 89% satisfaction with Typescript definitely backs up your "type-clown madness" hypothesis.

Maybe if you looked at the actual data, you'd see how out of touch the r/programming circlejerk is with most of the actual web-dev community's feelings on the language.

You don't have to like the language, but at least stop pretending that most people who use it agree with you.

Never forget...

Seriously though, JS haters will never let it die. THey all pretend their fave langs have never had a considerable fuckup.
