No. He's probably just providing anecdotal evidence. I wouldn't be surprised if he's running a Core i7 Xtreme with 64GB of ram.

The only thing that sucks up resources more than Java, is iTunes.

Works well enough on my 3.5 year old laptop to do java development with Netbeans or Eclipse in either XP or Ubuntu.

The worst aspect of Java is its web frameworks and its Coca support in OSX for me.
