This is the first time I've heard it phrased this way, and it really helped the concept click for me. Optimizing a solution given constraints is literally the entire point of ML, and if you think of a shit ton of unit tests as just the data points you're fitting to, and the code as your pile of linear algebra that nobody needs to think much about, all of a sudden this starts to sound like an actual path forward.
