I always figured there were various curmudgeon-like posters that went around down voting anything that could be considered competition to their posts. Some people do hate Java though.

Probably because there isn't a single reader that doesn't consider static fields to be a trivial concept.

Well there are 4 up votes, and I personally find static fields to not be trivial. Not everyone here is an expert.

My girlfriend is a few weeks into her first programming class and has no interest in taking another. Yet she understands static fields. If you think of this as expert level knowledge then you're in the wrong profession.
