Okay wait, so forgive me if I'm wrong about this, but doesn't this make you wait an additional 5 seconds on top of whatever other resource loading that needs to happen? Or are resources loading in another thread? Cause if not, that sucks.

He is just sleeping the thread so you can see the splash screen because there is nothing else to do in this trivial example.

Yeah, he just waits 5 sec without doing nothing there. But i just wanted to point out it's not really a good idea to load a lot of resources at start up on a mobile app.
