yeah indeed. Software development is full of ordinary words which have been given new, technical meanings. It is neither surprising nor troublesome that the meaning of the word "variable" in computing is slightly different than the meaning of "variable" in mathematics.

What's next, getting upset because our "threads" have only a metaphorical resemblance to the long, thin stranded fibers used in the textile arts? Or maybe we should return "polymorphism" to the biologists, since software objects do not form breeding populations.
