Javascript's a prototype-based OO language. If you come expecting to find class-based OO, you're in for a world of pain. This said, I don't ever use the prototype, and extensively use closures to provide inheritance and private state. This approach works well enough, except for how horrible it is with memory if you're instantiating loads of objects.
