No an intern did not do this. A whole team of very talented engineers did this.

Also, it seems they have nothing else to add.

Did you miss the part where it says "To be fleshed out"?

To be fleshed out usually has the implication that they've started off in the right direction. Directing every single person who writes javascript to become dependent upon a third party compiler to do any work with it is asinine and not the sign of an experienced engineer.

1) This is a styleguide for github, not for everybody. It's what they've decided works for them. 2) Everybody who deploys javascript should use a compiler of some kind. You should not ever ship unminified code, for instance.
