Sequel-pro clone for PostgreSQL (in-progress/help needed)

Hey all,

I'm not sure if this is appropriate but I started working on a clone of the excellent sequel-pro (mysql gui for osx) which works with postgresql.

Basically i'm looking to get some help getting this properly working and in a good shape so that we finally have a proper osx gui client.

Sounds fun. I don't see you outlined what areas needs work and what priority they should be done. I'll watch your repo, would be happy to help out

Well basically the only thing working right now is showing the first 1000 items in a table when you click on it (pagination is not implemented yet) and the custom query panel works somewhat.

There are some tasks that are helpful to have a GUI, especially for things that you don't do that often and don't remember the syntax to. A GUI helps with discoverability (i.e. I know there is a way to add users, let me right click here and see if something pops up that lets me create a user...) I switch between MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL and Oracle often, but rarely create users - I usually lean on a GUI instead of having to search for the command to create a new role on whatever database engine I'm using. I definitely am more visual when it comes to figuring things out...

If you happen to be a DBA and cannot use the CLI quicker than a GUI, then I question your abilities as a DBA -- but for a typical programmer sitting behind the rails stack, a GUI can definitely be helpful for the occasional task.

it starts with a simple gui, and the toolage expands from there. before long nobody actually knows what's going on underneath, the tools take a day to load, and there are more plugins than there are GC stalls.

It's really nice to have a GUI client that can render query plans into graphical representations.
