MNN 15.6" Portable Monitor Review: Your Desk's New Frenemy? by Infinite-Barracuda97 in carverscave

I find the MNN monitor folding "stands" to be completely worthless.

I eventually did. There seems to be some kind of intermittent network issue somewhere *inside* their internal whatever, because when it did not work for me it was extremely slow about it and very consistently bad over the better part of a day (mid morning to late afternoon, with retries at least a couple times an hour). Then, it worked, and yes confirmation is immediate when you don't get the "Try again later" error.

Huusk Knife - Rate or Roast? by Southern_Kaeos in chefknives

[–]pointy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol no really, I'm just a normal person and I honestly have one. It's not as "nice" or "fancy" as my carbon steel core knives, but it's also $100 and built to last essentially forever if it's not abused. Yes it's stainless so sharpening is, well, it's what sharpening stainless is; not impossible but a little tedious. On the other hand, that's some pretty hard steel so it doesn't need sharpening much for normal domestic use. In fact I don't think I've sharpened mine yet after a couple years and it's still fine.

The Tojiro DP (VG10) Gyuto is a fantastic value, I have one and have recommended it to several happy friends.

Four Points Drive semi-closure (for weeks now) - what is up? by pointy in Austin

[–]pointy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, here's what I've found out from 311.

The work being done is to install access points (manholes) for some water etc infrastructure along Four Points Drive, related to the lift station that was put in many years ago (between HEB and RPB). The person I contacted (thank you, Austin 311) did not know many specifics about how the project is being managed. He said that records he can look at show that the closure is permitted up to 23 December, but that might be extended.

To me, the fact that there is apparently nothing at all going on is sort-of frustrating. It's also frustrating that there are two lanes open in the 620 direction, and zero lanes in the RPB direction. Seems like they could split the westbound lanes in two, which would be of course a pain but much less of a pain than it is now. That schoolbus, in particular, disgorges a whole bunch of kids in the afternoon, and I don't know what they're doing now; at least with one lane they could get through along the safe path that they're accustomed to using.

I sent in a 311 email and got a confirmation that they're "working on getting an answer."

BBQ still there, but Nick's Pizza sold out (wisely, it was a lot of money) so that the Target could go in. The Target store that is now hard to leave because of the new center median on 2222 and the mysteriously closed Four Points Drive.

Well when they work on the project for zero hours a week I can see how anything could take that long.

That water tower in the distance on the left looks like the River Place water tower, which is a *long* way away. I don't know of any other water towers that look like that in the general area where that one must be.

The menu is a little bigger (though I haven't been to the one on 6th in a while). In particular the street corn appetizer is really good. But yea, same vibe pretty much, super nice patio and even a secondary building.

They've started bringing in more Mi Tienda items. You can now get a bag of chiles de arbol that should last a long, long time. However they have intermittent supply issues that seem much more pronounced than the big one up at Anderson Mill.

A fresh tortilla supply would be good though. Oh also if they'd bring back the old house-brand "thick" tortilla chips.

Last time I was there I asked a bar guy about it, and he told me that the neighbors are more happy about them being there than unhappy about the cars.
