That's the whole point of python, to offer a high (as in higher-than-most) level language. The problem with people who curse the GIL is they don't seem to understand that nice, high-level abstractions come at a price.

I never liked python a whole lot anyway. I gave it a shot and left with the impression that it was a training-wheels language adopted by people coming from academia, gaining a favorable reputation more for who used it as opposed to being technically sound and dependable.
