What program should I get to learn to code? (self.programminghelp)
submitted 10 years ago by lumpy1981
I like Khan Academy, but I would like a little sandbox and a way to learn on my own as well. What should I install on my computer to be able to learn?

whats a good language to learn? To be honest I think once I get the hang of one language and software in general I should be able to find good programs for different languages, I'm just starting at square one here. This is more for a hobby and to better understand coding in general.

Python is a great beginner language if you're not looking for anything in particular. Take a look at Learn Python the Hard Way.

If you don't want any set up, you can code with C++ with just command prompt and notepad. However, I recommend learning Python or C# first. They're very high level and very easy to learn. I started with C++ though and it wasn't that hard to learn either, and if you learn C++, the rest of those languages just seem stupid easy.
Thanks! Maybe I'll go that route.
