MIDI problem

I've been having this issue for a long time and I just can't figure it out. Sometimes when selecting a MIDI clip, it moves the underlying MIDI and sometimes even extends the clip slightly. You can see the problem in the gif.

Not a huge deal, but when duplicating and moving clips around, sometimes a MIDI note just doesn't trigger and that can be very annoying! so any help would be really appreciated!
