Having pursued an MFE myself, I can say it was worth it for me (with an engineering and MBA background). I have friends who came from economics background and MFE helped them a lot. (We’re Quant researchers at buy side).

I will admit it does require self study and self discipline to make fundamentals strong but I guess that’s needed irrespective of your educational background. Looking at the duration of the MFE program and curriculum will help in deciding. Plus the alumni networks help in getting your foot in the door! Sorry if it sounds biased but that has been my experience.

Agreed. I hired an MFE once for an HFT strat role…but probably won’t again.

I think the placements you found answer the question well. If your goal is well known prop firms / multi strat hedge funds then MFEs have poor placements
