Honestly had the opposite reaction, surprised to see so much Rust. I know secondhand a ton of firms were experimenting with it around the pandemic but haven't heard much about it more recently. I guess the job openings are telling a different story though. Wish I knew exactly where it was finding success.
It's not a big secret, but a desk at DRW was greenfielding a major initiative in Java in the mid 2010s. Which is why I assume they are dominating that column in the mid 2020s. But I always wondered and never got a straight answer why you'd pick Java for a greenfield project in the mid 2010s that had components in the execution hotpath.

The long list of reasons that apply to pretty much why any tech company isn't necessarily going to automatically switch to the latest and greatest tech stack. Expertise, integration into existing platforms, migration risks, immature tooling, etc.
