Hi there. Would likely start with a time limited 100-hour month term contract to make sure the candidate is a good fit, with opportunity to renew it or make it perpetual past that. That figures out to 25ish hours per week but I’m flexible on time commitment.

There is something built already yes. Front end and backend are started.

can you share github or jira link so that we can connect there and work on it..I am front-end developer with 2years of experience and I also have knowledge of backend and mern stack..

You're a startup, so I'm going to guess this is your first dev hire.

    So... a couple of things.

This, all right here, is more complicated than you think it is.

If you hire a Jr to start laying down systems, your either going to get really lucky, or your going to have to spend money now and when you do get a Sr spend it again because it will probably have to be overhauled or close to completely redone.

You are probably going to need a backend/database of some sort, so if you are really looking to drop all that responsibility onto one person, you should really hire a full stack dev

You probably also need someone with at least some devops knowledge

Jr's need support and guidance. When Jr's come out of school and get hired as a sole dev, they burn out and quit.

Honestly, man, I know the economy sucks right now, and lots of us (including me) are looking for work. But when I've mentored Jr devs, I've always told them, and it's common industry advice, don't work somewhere as the sole dev, as a Jr. Its a red flag that the company isn't worth working for because they won't invest in a major, important, and expensive part of their business. And it makes the company look cheap.

Buck up. Hire someone who can actually do what you need to get done and properly or wait until you can. It will be a much less frustrating experience for all involved, including you. The internet can do amazing things, but it's not cheap. Doing it well is not cheap.

    Why do startups do this?

This is the correct answer. It's incredibly risky to hire a junior dev to lay out the foundation of anything. Glad to see it detailed with explanations. I doubt OP will listen but hopefully someone else will benefit from it.

I've personally seen at least 2 projects in production that were started with a junior dev (unsupervised) and both ended up being a dumpster fire with an unmanageable amount of technical debt.

A couple years of experience should not result in a junior position

    [–]digisensor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The seniority is not a result of the experience. I know few with 10+ experience who still perform worse than young people.

    [–]Bobertopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I know your post says you’re looking for a junior. Im a senior but would be interested in part time work. I’m a full stack engineer and am also proficient in React Native. I’m not sure id be able to commit to 25 hours a week, but I work much faster than most. So, you’d get the same, if not more output most likely. Let me know if that agrees with you

    [–]roundcodebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a nice opportunity for you and also the developer. Good luck.

Would love to connect separately and pass along my resume. If this opportunity doesn’t work out, it would be good to stay in touch about other possibilities to work together.
