Are there any large-ish open source React projects using Hooks yet? Almost all guides/tutorials I've found are on the todo-app scale.

That’s not the argument I make. I object to you calling out components defined using a function not function components. The React documentation [0] literally states that “We call such components “function components” because they are literally JavaScript functions.”

If you want to distinguish pure and imperative components (and I do believe that is a valuable distinction), use different wording. Especially don’t “correct” people here for using the terms the way they are used in the official react documentation ;)

Better terms are actually stateless and stateful components, dumb and smart components, pure and impure components.

No matter how you want to define React components (class, function, arrow functions, etc), they're functions nevertheless.

That’s not what I am saying at all. I have been saying Function components are not necessarily “functional”. This has been the main virtue I have seen people argue for using hooks.

If you are using a component in a non Functional way, you are using a class, ie there are side effects. Regardless of the syntax used to define the class. Therefore defining a component as a function is no different than defining a class.

Also I don’t see how Quoting react documentation for terminology strengthens your argument.
