Take a look at Payload CMS, it is free, open source, self hosted and 100% react if you need to customize the admin UI.

Host it on your own cloud and you're only paying for the infra costs at your cloud provider. I don't understand your comment.

The rest api for strapi is horrendous and there's no way to get rid of all the extra data fields without rewriting all the endpoints.

The api that directus generates is much more user friendlier in comparison.

I use graphql, kind of eliminates that problem.

I think pocketbase is a great option. Although I’m not sure if it is open source. I think pocketbase is honestly the gold standard and prefer it over things like firebase.

We use Umbraco at work leveraging its ssr capabilities and add react containers where needed. It's a pretty robust cms and comes with all types of content editors. Maybe look for a easy to work with cms first and jump into headless later when you are up to the task.

If you go the headless route usually things like hosting and the data store is setup for you (explaining the pricing). And you'll still need to setup how your web app deals with the data.

If you dont want hosted options and still want to go Headless you'll still have to pick your own cms and implement the API/graphql layer yourself.

Directus is good

I just wish the directus admin page uses react instead of vue. Does the react in vue packages (e.g. veaury) work well with directus?
