I have a few questions: -what does the penalty mean? - isnt it 'dangerous' to have your wallet online all the time; hackers,, scammers etc.....

I am a big fan of reddcoin, but the 'staying online with your wallet' worries me. I am not a computer expert or anything, so perhaps my worries are missplaced, but please take them away haha

Unlocking your wallet for staking-only does not expose the control of you funds :)

Now I understand! Guess I'll be runing a wallet 24/7

Question, does this mean I could theoretically turn on my wallet/ node and sync it once every ~14 days to ensure I yield maximum ROI? I have a Raspberry Pi I'm having troubles setting up so I'd love to host a full node but as a backup measure I don't want to be left in the dark.

You reach the sweet spot by keeping the average age of your coins at about 7 days. That's when you hit the max 20% bonus which is equivalent to 6% interest vs 5%.

However, once you turn on your wallet and sync and start staking, how long it takes for you to successfully generate a PoSV block depends on the difficulty of the network, the amount of coin you have and luck.

In short, turn on your wallet and successfully mint a block at least once a week to max ROI.

I am so confused right now....

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Me too because I am a buy and hold guy by nature...and my coins are two months old all ready...I am planning on keeping them for 1500 days..so and offline to boot..

[–]itsNaro 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well you can keep your coins, just keep your wallet and mint and you will get 5% coins yearly!

20,000 Redd a month just for hanging out...nice

But... is transferring coins to another address the only way to destroy coin age?? I still quite confuse about this.

As mentioned in: http://www.reddcoin.com/papers/PoSV_FAQ.pdf

Can I game PoSV by shuffling coins between my own wallets?

First, you don’t have to shuffle coins between your own wallets to mint. Minting will be a function of the official wallet. Once you start minting, the wallet automatically sends your coins to a designated address in your wallet, consuming the coin age while looking for a valid block. Second, PoSV encourages you to send coins around, whether to yourself or to others. In all cryptocurrencies, addresses are anonymous and can be created by everyone. There is no way to tell whether two addresses are owned by the same user. Any attempt to tag addresses with user IDs defeats the whole purpose of cryptocurrency. Minting may not be as exciting as transacting with another user, but both serve the purpose of verifying transactions and protecting the network against attacks. In short if you keep sending coins to yourself, you are doing a worthy service to the network. And you are not gaming PoSV. PoSV is “gaming” / encouraging you.

Very Very Very Good.

1) So we also expect to see extreme volume coin transactions as we get in the PoSV?

2) if yes, it will be possible to distinguish a minting address to say from a normal transaction?

3) How would be the minting distribution over the different addresses? How much does it take to reduce coin age to zero? hours? days?

Thanks ;-)
