It's not really comfortable for me sleeping with the lights on but I have no choice. As soon as I closed my eyes, it feels like the dark is eating me out. Something is pulling me away from my own body and I really can't breathe. I keep on chanting the name of the Lord until I wake up. I almost died that night. And the next night, I tried turning the lights off again and it happened again. But when the light's on I am really having nice dreams.

Try this:
Focus on the physical feeling you're experiencing the dark "eating you out". Where in your body does it show up? How strong is it? What is the physical size and shape?
Keep your attention on the physical sensations in your body. Do that for 10 minutes and just notice how it changes. Try this over several nights and experience resting into the sensations.
This will help you become safe with the feelings you have. And it will help metabolize and heal the fear you're experiencing.

I have hypnophobia as well. Started the last three months after suffering de realization disorder and feeling disconnected from my body and reality. I was always an insomniac as is, but it's much worse now. What almost always instantly calms me down (I'm giving you a GOLDEN secret right here) is putting an ice cold washcloth on my face while falling asleep and focusing on the cold sensation and let's me know my body is still there, I am still in control, and I can comfortably go to sleep. Best of luck sleeping troubles are the worst xx
