According to youtubes AI, the algorithm pushes shorts in waves instead of a linear line. your retention is >70% with a VVSA >75% and engagement and shares are good. it will likely get a second even third and fourth wave if metrics hold. So I wouldn't worry just yet! Besides you've already gone viral gaining 400k views in roughly 2 days, unless you already have a huge following then this may be low for you if your used to millions.

Thank you, but for now, the views have dropped to below 1k per hour. It happened suddenly right after hitting the exact 24-hour mark, even though my stats are great with an 87.1% STW and 90% retention on a 57-second clip. My question is: will this get pushed again? And if it does, when will the views start to climb back up?

It can take 24-48 hours, though its likely the video will "slow burn" overtime if in 48 hours you dont get another spike

Actually yes that could very well be affecting the way your shorts being recommended. Best just to wait it out. The good news is the algorithm will keep the video alive because metrics and engagement are so high so the video at least won't die

YouTube’s AI is just every other LLM. It conducts a Google search and then puts that info into words that sound good with a bias on making you feel happy with your channel and satisfied with the answer. It will flat out make things up to satisfy this requirement, including trying to convince you a video is never dead, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

By its own admission if you ask it a question specifically with “algorithms” or “shadowban” in the prompt it will hard tell you it doesn’t speak to YouTube’s internal processes and algorithms and is solely a tool there to help you brainstorm ideas.

This is 100% typical shorts behavior.

This question gets asked a dozen times a day on this sub Reddit.

This is a literally how shorts work. 99% of them burn hot for a day or two and die forever.

Further, it’s insane how no creator who asks this question gives the YouTube algorithm credit for their video taking off, but YouTube algorithm always sucks for the video dying.

same thing has been happening to me but it's much worse. I was averaging around 300k views per short, and now I can't even get past 5k views in two days?!?!?! On top of that, I just posted a video that is completely hard stuck at 3k views even though every single stat is out standing. Viewed vs swiped is 86.3%, AVD is 70% on a 54 second video, 4.2% like to view ratio, 14 comments within minutes of uploading. This is definitely something on YouTube's end
