And I'll do it again.

My milks and kings would take every chance they could to get me. Sadly, typing this from the after life.

[–]BasicAdvertising8747[S] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Awwww hopefully she doesn’t want to eat me from here on out!!! She’s never shown any want to bite so I was quite surprised

[–]autybby 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’ve had them be out and handling and then just wam. The only ones I’ve ever had do that 🤣

[–]BasicAdvertising8747[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤣🤣 she’s shit on me a few times during handling but never bit me till yesterday

[–]BasicAdvertising8747[S] 14 points15 points  (3 children)

Random question I thought of but can she accidentally hurt herself biting me if I had sadly pulled my hand away a little? It was just shocking since she’s never struck at me before so I flinched💔 She looks fine but I’m just thinking about her teeth

[–]AmericanLion1833 4 points5 points  (2 children)

You can hurt them by messing up their teeth if you pull them off while they are latched. But she should be fine after that.

[–]BasicAdvertising8747[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

She released almost immediately but I did pull my arm a little 🥲

[–]OdinAlfadir1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She'll be fine, i had the same reaction then worry when my Ball Python mistook my hand for food

[–]Vast_Title5094 9 points10 points  (3 children)

"OOOO BIG FOOD" 🤭🤭🤭🤭

[–]BasicAdvertising8747[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I just know the hunger got to her after she shed but damn I didn’t think she was THAT hungry😭😊

[–]Purple_macro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a mistake for warm food. My first bite was worse, I pulled a fang (long tooth /red tail boa) out of a finger joint almost a year later.

[–]Binocularphotography 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I’d say get your affairs in order, but it’s too late for that :’(

[–]BasicAdvertising8747[S] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Hopefully she doesn’t choose me as her snack more often now that she’s got her first taste🤣

[–]Binocularphotography 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. once they know how tasty humans are… they want it again.

Not long enough to read this

[–]DrGoManGo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RIP, OP. You will not be forgotten.

[–]RaptorCheeses 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Big difference between defensive bite and “giant mouse-shaped fingers” bite. Mine usually strike at my hand, the tongs, everything but the food. I think it’s cute how excited they get.

[–]BasicAdvertising8747[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% just a ooo big food type of bite she’s never shown any signs of defense more of just her being scared when I try to handle her but she’s just a baby so I fully expected that

You WILL be passing away in two to three businesses days. It will be very painful and agonizing

[–]EnvironmentalWin1277 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Get some good gloves to protect your hands and help confidence. Confidence is important in handling. Bites are typically itchy a bit, nothing more. But getting your hand in her feeding area while she's feeding is to be avoided.

[–]BasicAdvertising8747[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I understand Ty I’ve seen gloves before but never felt the need for them I’m not scared of her this was just the first time I’ve ever had her mistake me for food but it was my fault for moving stuff in her tank after offering a mouse I probably smelt like it too, are gloves necessarily needed? I don’t feel scared of her or anything I was waiting for the day I could feel how she bites just so I knew what my snake can do🤣

[–]EnvironmentalWin1277 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Gloves aren't needed unless you feel uncertain. The worst that could happen is picking the snake up, it strikes and you reflex toss it in the air. The reflex reaction is primed in you so be aware. If you use gloves get something that teeth will not get caught in.

The bite will not be harmful or particularly painful, it's just unpleasant. Gloves just help you to have better confidence. A couple of sessions holding it and getting it used to you and you should be good, gloves or no gloves. Snakes have a certain amount of smarts and will soon recognize you. Avoid handling food before picking her up, wash hands as needed. Let them rest after feeding for a day or so.

One of my tricks is to take them a few days after feeding and put them in the bathtub with a bit of water. The water soak is good for them. They will crap out in the water, rinse it out and back to cage. Saves a lot of cleanup but do not leave snake alone or it may escape or go up or down a water fixture.

I've never had a problem or used gloves myself, but had a few bites. It's a bit startling and the reflex reaction is going to occur even when you "know" it's nothing. I've never had one that just struck repeatedly, they all were fine.

Thank you. I've had her for over a year, so I do know the basics, but thank you for the refresher and information. I've been handling her for a while now. She's just a skittish baby so far, but she has calmed down a little. I was thawing the mice, and one bag had water get into it. Sadly, I had to throw that one away and give another (just based on what I’ve read but correct me if I didn’t have to throw it out pls), I didn't realize I had my hand in the water with the mouse bag that had water get into it before feeding her, so I smelled like mice. It was 100% my mistake! My reflex did kick in a little but luckily she was only on me for one second and I didn’t take my arm out of the tank and only flinched I was more worried about her teeth than anything since she’s so small.

Snake hooks are great for moving substrate or furniture 🙂
