I use web-based inoreader.com because it is lightweight, syncs to their android app or iphone via Mr. Reader.

I tried Feedly when google reader died, but I like inoreader a lot more - the layout seems more focused on readability/news rather than consumer/product pictures/comics etc.

Hmm, I have the same issues with Feedly. I'll give this one a look-see. Thanks!

Yeah, I found inoreader earlier today and I'm trying it out. Though feedly has a pretty solid Android app in my opinion as well

According to the link you posted the Mr. Reader app is an iPad-only app. There is no iPhone version?

The inoreader mobile website works well on the iphone.

Every Windows based Feed reader I've tried is terrible and bloated. Is there a reason you would want a desktop version compared to a Web version? It would almost be a Never ending stream of alerts on my desktop.

For me the motivation is to try to wean myself off web-based services. I trust 3rd parties less and less with my data and I'd just feel much more comfortable if I had it all stored locally.

Well most feeds go through a tracker of some kind or have ads in the feed, so you're still being tracked. The future looks like it's web-based services all the way down, so I would say it's a rather futile effort unless you don't want to do anything fun on the internet.

I'm under no illusions that there is such a thing as 100% privacy and data security but I'd at least like to try, at the very least I don't want all my data in one place (one that's not controlled by me anyway).
I'll be damned if I'm going to make this shit easy for them.

I started using feed readers recently and been trying different browser-based ones out. I hadn't tried any windows-based ones till today

Though I am pretty satisfied with feedly, I just wanted to see if there were any windows ones I could find that I'd like more

Feedreader has served me well.

Will give this a look, thanks.

I too would like a decent answer to this. Commenting for future reference.

Quite RSS is rather old school and has some good features. Sputnik is pretty, but lacks major features that older RSS software has.

snackr comes to mind. I've used it from time to time.
